Experimental Sculpture Collection
Having started with small monochromatic works, Nevelson ventured into a larger scale – and by the end of her life, she had moved onto monumental sculptures. She proved that women’s work could be part of the public arena and that large-scale artworks were and are not the sole domain of male artists.
As I worked, I began to feel that the sculptures weren't being pushed far enough conceptually or visually. To address this, I took the time to step back, walk around each piece, and view them from multiple angles. This helped me identify areas where I could push the forms further—whether through gesture, balance, or negative space.
After completing this project, I feel most inspired to continue exploring wood as a primary material. Its versatility, warmth, and natural character offer endless possibilities for experimentation and emotional expression.
