Artiest Statment
In this work, I explore the themes of survival and chaos. By juxtaposing simple, everyday sustenance — canned beans, bread, a tin cup — with objects of violence and survival such as bullets and a knife, I aim to create a visual tension that speaks to the fragility of existence in times of chaos. The scattered shells and the dark, almost oppressive lighting evoke an atmosphere of war or crisis, yet the meal remains central, a symbol of persistence and humanity even in the harshest conditions. The deliberate messiness of the spilled beans further blurs the line between nourishment and destruction, inviting the viewer to reflect on the uneasy coexistence of survival and violence. This piece is a meditation on resilience — on what it means to endure, to find small comforts amid disruption, and to carry on feeding the body while the world around demands arms. The bright light concentrated at the center creates a sense of being targeted or watched, as if under surveillance or threat. In contrast, the surrounding darkness suggests the unknown — an uncertain space beyond immediate reach. I also incorporated repeated circular forms and rotations throughout the composition, using them as a subtle, non-linear way to evoke the passage of time and the cyclical nature of survival.
